According to a recent study published in the renowned internal medicine journal JAMA,

Improving and maintaining healthy sleep duration over longer periods could be part of obesity prevention and weight loss programs. The study found that extending sleep reduced energy intake and led to negative energy balance under real-world conditions in overweight adults who habitually reduced their sleep duration.
